change table header in runtime

I had a table with the following header;

<thead> 
            <tr> 
               <th field="descp" width="30%" >description</th> 
               <th field="quan" width="16%" align='right'>quantity</th>
            
            </tr>   
</thead> 

How can I change to 2nd column header title (during runtime) from 'quantity' to, say 'amount'?
